I was very impressed when I read this book. It is from another perspective. I have read many books on WWII and they have been the suffering conditons of the allies. This however , was written by a German in English. I would have had great difficulty writing in a language that is not my native tongue. After getting into this story I lost the day. The writer's descriptive ability in this case made it all so real that I could not stop reading. I had to know how this couple could possible survive such tragedy and inhumane treatment. And after finishing this story, to think that this really happened. This is a fabulous read for any history buff and for someone who thinks life is hard.
